Tordesillas and Tordesillas y el cruce del Duero

Tordesillas, the town of the 1494 treaty and the Santa Clara convent, stands where the A-6 and A-62 meet. It is a through town with a lot of road traffic, and its residents go to the capital for hospital visits, the high-speed station and paperwork.

From Tordesillas to Madrid and Barajas

Tordesillas has the A-6 on its doorstep: the route runs south via Medina del Campo and Arévalo and crosses the Guadarrama through the toll tunnel or over the Alto del León. For Barajas, the M-40 or M-50 is taken on reaching Madrid, depending on traffic.

Around the province of Valladolid

• Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco (Easter week): Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco, also of international tourist interest, draws many visitors to a small town. Processions end at night, when there is no longer a bus back to the capital.
• Grape harvest in the Ribera (September and October): During the harvest the Ribera del Duero wineries get more visits and tastings, and autumn weekends around Peñafiel book up. For a winery route it pays to arrange both the car and the visits well ahead.
• Seminci film festival (October): The Valladolid International Film Week fills the city with guests and audiences for an autumn week, with screenings that end late and arrivals and departures via Campo Grande and Barajas.
• September fair and fiestas (early September): The Virgen de San Lorenzo fiestas in Valladolid move many people at night between the capital and the surrounding towns, exactly when public transport thins out.

Tip: Before booking a transfer to Villanubla, confirm your flight actually leaves from there: many routes are seasonal and flying from Barajas is the norm.
